Pitching and hitting
Kevin attended Pearland High School where he was a 3-year letterman at shortstop. After a stellar senior, he earned the honors of being 1st team all-state. Also, Kevin was nominated for the Houston Scholar-Athlete of the year. He graduated 25th out 750 students in 2002. After high school, he moved on to play college baseball at the University of Houston. Kevin went to college as a middle infielder, but as a freshman in the fall of 2002, Houston’s head coach Raynor Noble immediately saw potential in Kevin as a pitcher. After never pitching before, Kevin excelled both as a position player and as a pitcher and would leave as one of the school’s all-time great two-way players.
